Beginner Flag Football Training
New to the game, or about to be? Beginner training turns “I've never played” into “I know what I'm doing” before the first practice, so your child steps onto the field confident instead of confused.
Structured as a course
Taught as a leveled course in age bands of 5–8, 9–10, 11–13, and 14–17, with every one of the 8 sessions written before you start. It's deliberately built to run in a driveway plus about 30 feet of grass, so a January start still has your child ready for opening day.
8-Session Course

16-Session Course

Paying online holds the spot and starts the coach match. Not ready yet? Request this program and we'll walk you through it first, no pressure. Two kids in the house? We can't verify siblings at checkout, so ask us before you pay and we'll apply it to your total. Ask us about it.
Is this your athlete?
- Kids signing up for their first flag football season
- Young athletes coming over from soccer, baseball, or basketball
- Kids who tried a season and felt lost or left behind
- Parents who want the fundamentals taught right the first time
Ages 5–17. Most of our beginners are on the younger end, but plenty of kids pick the sport up later, and nobody gets treated like they're behind. This is our most patience-forward program.
What athletes learn
How the game works
Downs, first downs, positions, and what to actually do when the ball is snapped. Taught through play, not lecture.
Catching fundamentals
Diamond hands, watching the ball in, and building from short easy catches to moving targets. Early success here builds everything else.
Flag pulling basics
How to line up a ball carrier, break down, and pull the flag, so defense feels like a game of tag they can win.
Running with the ball
Ball security, following the field, and simple evasive moves that make first touches fun.
How each session runs
Every session is a full 60 minutes.
Game-style warm-up
Tag-based and chase-based games that sneak in footwork and flag skills.
One new skill
Beginners learn best one thing at a time. Each session builds a single skill to a confident level.
Play it out
Mini-scenarios: run a route, pull a flag, score a touchdown. Skills connect to the actual game.
Confidence check
Every session ends on a success. Kids should finish wanting the next one.
We bring everything
All equipment provided and sized for small hands: softer, age-appropriate footballs, low-pressure drills, and a coach who knows how to keep a 5-year-old engaged. A backyard or driveway is plenty of space.
A parent or guardian is always on the property during sessions. Coaches never enter the home (sessions run in the yard, driveway, or garage) and never transport athletes. Bad-weather sessions reschedule within a 14-day window.
Beginner Training FAQ
My child has never touched a football. Is that okay?
That's exactly who this program is for. Coaches start from zero, with no assumed knowledge and no drills that embarrass a beginner.
How many sessions before the season starts?
The 8-session course is built to take a first-timer from zero to season-ready, and starting about two months out lines the finish up with opening day. If the season is closer than that, tell us the date and we'll be straight with you about what fits in the time left.
What if my child is shy or nervous?
Training at home helps enormously. It's familiar territory with no crowd of strangers, and coaches build rapport in the first ten minutes through play, not drills.
Is flag football safe for young kids?
Flag football is non-contact by design. There's no tackling, no blocking schemes, and no pads needed, which is a big reason it's one of the fastest-growing youth sports in the country.
