Tryout Prep

Tryouts are a different skill than football. Short windows, unfamiliar drills, evaluators with clipboards. Tryout Prep trains the exact situations your athlete will face, so tryout day feels familiar instead of overwhelming.

How it's packaged

Built around your athlete

Booked as a short custom block (typically 3–6 sessions) built backward from your tryout date. This is position-specific custom training, planned per athlete rather than sold as a standard course tier.

Who it's for

Is this your athlete?

  • Athletes trying out for travel or tournament teams
  • Players moving up an age division and facing re-evaluation
  • Kids who play well in games but tighten up when they're being watched
  • Families who want an honest read on where their athlete stands

Ages 5–17. Prep is tailored to the level of the team they're trying out for.

The curriculum

What athletes learn

Standard evaluation drills

Route trees on air, 1-on-1 coverage reps, flag-pull pursuit drills, and agility tests. These are the formats most tryouts use, rehearsed until they're routine.

First-impression athletics

Sprint starts, sharp cuts, and clean catch technique. Evaluators see these things in the first five minutes.

Performing under observation

Simulated evaluation pressure: timed reps, one-chance drills, and coaching on how to reset after a mistake instead of spiraling.

Tryout-day strategy

Where to line up, how to show coachability, what evaluators actually look for, and how to stand out without showboating.

Inside a session

How each session runs

Every session is a full 60 minutes.

01

Assessment

The first session benchmarks your athlete against what the tryout will measure and sets the priorities.

02

Drill rehearsal

High-rep practice of the specific drill formats tryouts use, with technique correction each rep.

03

Simulated evaluation

The coach runs a mock tryout, clipboard and all, so the real one is the second time rather than the first.

04

Final tune-up

The last session before tryout day sharpens strengths and locks in the plan. No new material, just confidence.

At-home logistics

We bring everything

All equipment provided. Tryout Prep works best as a short, concentrated block, typically 3 to 6 sessions in the weeks before the tryout date. Tell us the date and we'll build backward from it.

A parent or guardian is always on the property during sessions. Coaches never enter the home (sessions run in the yard, driveway, or garage) and never transport athletes. Bad-weather sessions reschedule within a 14-day window.

Tryout Prep Training FAQ

Where can I read free flag football tryout tips first?

Start with /resources/flag-football-tryouts-how-to-prepare — evaluator checklist, drill formats, a 3–4 week timeline, and tryout-day logistics. Use this Tryout Prep program when you want those formats coached live at home.

How far before the tryout should we start?

Three to four weeks out is the sweet spot: enough time for real improvement, close enough that everything stays sharp. A week out, we can still do valuable rehearsal work.

Do you know what specific teams look for?

We prepare athletes for the drill formats and evaluation criteria common across travel flag programs. We won't claim inside knowledge of any specific team's tryout unless we actually have it.

What if my athlete doesn't make the team?

Then they're a better player than before the prep, with a clear picture of what to work on, and we'll tell you honestly what the gap looked like. Many athletes make it on the next cycle.

Can Tryout Prep be semi-private?

Yes. Teammates trying out for the same team often prep together, and the live 1-on-1 reps mirror the tryout format well.
