Youth Quarterback Training

Youth Quarterback Training for Flag Football

The quarterback touches the ball every play and gets the least individual coaching at practice. Youth quarterback training builds mechanics, decision-making, and command one rep at a time — flag football QB tips you can actually rehearse in your backyard.

How it's packaged

Built around your athlete

QB development is custom, position-specific work, built per athlete and booked hourly or as a tailored block rather than the standard course tiers. Many families pair a QB block with a friend on the receiver side as a semi-private. Published custom rate: see pricing ($175–$200/hr).

Who it's for

Is this your athlete?

  • Current flag football QBs who want cleaner mechanics and faster decisions
  • Athletes seriously competing to win the QB job on their team or at tryouts
  • Young QBs with mechanical issues nobody has corrected at team practice
  • Flag QBs preparing for higher competition or tackle football down the road

Ages 5–17. Younger QBs focus on mechanics and confidence; older QBs add progressions, protections, and defensive recognition. Custom QB work is scoped per athlete rather than sold as a fixed Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced course total.

The curriculum

What athletes learn

Throwing mechanics

Grip, base, hip rotation, release point, and follow-through, built into a repeatable motion that holds up under pressure and adds velocity and accuracy. Age-banded cues match how we teach throwing at home.

Footwork and timing

Drops, resets, and throwing on the move. Flag QBs live outside the pocket, so we train the feet that make off-platform throws accurate on short and intermediate timing routes.

Reading the defense

Pre-snap looks, identifying the rusher, progressing through receivers, and knowing when to pull it down and run inside the release clock most youth flag formats use.

Command and leadership

Huddle presence, cadence, and communicating with receivers. These are the intangibles coaches look for when they pick a QB — and what tryout evaluators notice when the arm talent is similar.

Inside a session

How each session runs

Every session is a full 60 minutes.

01

Mechanics warm-up

Progression throws that groove the motion before volume work begins.

02

Mechanics block

Targeted correction on the one or two mechanical priorities in the athlete's plan, not ten cues at once.

03

Decision block

Simulated reads and timing throws; with a semi-private partner, live QB-receiver reps.

04

Pressure finish

Accuracy challenges and scramble-drill throws with the score kept — the same pressure feel tryouts and games create.

At-home logistics

We bring everything

Your coach brings footballs in the correct size for your athlete's age, plus targets, cones, and agility equipment. A backyard or driveway is enough for a full mechanics-and-reads session. We train nationwide at home; a parent or guardian stays on the property.

A parent or guardian is always on the property during sessions. Coaches never enter the home (sessions run in the yard, driveway, or garage) and never transport athletes. Bad-weather sessions reschedule within a 14-day window.

QB Training Training FAQ

What is youth quarterback training for flag football?

It is 1-on-1 or semi-private, position-specific coaching focused on throwing mechanics, footwork, reads, and command — the skills team practice rarely isolates. Sessions run at your home. Plans are custom and booked at the published $175–$200/hr custom rate on /pricing, not as a fixed 8-session checkout tier.

What flag football QB tips matter most before a season or tryout?

A repeatable throwing motion with one or two cues max, accuracy to fixed spots on timing routes, footwork that resets after a scramble, and decision speed inside the release clock. For a tryout date, also rehearse being watched — see /resources/flag-football-tryouts-how-to-prepare and /training/tryout-prep.

Is QB training right for a kid who's never played the position?

This is our most advanced position-specific work, so it fits best when your athlete already plays QB or is seriously competing to win the job. If they're set on earning it, we'll build the plan from wherever their mechanics stand today. If they're still new to football itself, start with a leveled course and add QB work once the position is really in play. The free mechanics walkthrough is /resources/how-to-teach-a-kid-to-throw-a-football-qb-mechanics.

Does flag QB training transfer to tackle football?

The throwing motion, footwork, and read progression are the same foundation. Flag actually gives young QBs more live throwing reps per game than most youth tackle formats.

Can my QB train with their favorite receiver?

That's one of our favorite setups. Book it as a semi-private pair and half of every session becomes live timing and chemistry work.

How long until throwing mechanics improve?

A cleaner motion shows up within a few sessions. A durable, repeatable motion under game pressure takes a full block of work, and we're honest about that arc. It's why QB development is booked as a tailored block rather than a one-off.
